Grocery Shopping

Clients can often times feel overwhelmed going food shopping. Walking through the aisles trying to abide by a meal plan can be difficult, chaotic, and for some clients, it is avoided altogether. I am here to help mitigate the anxiety and to be a reminder of one's healthy self. I help guide clients to follow their meal plans and to be set up for success in the following week. Meal planning is essential when learning to change eating disorder behaviors. It helps to have accountability and compassionate support throughout this process.

Meal Sessions
Having meals with clients is an essential duty for an eating disorder coach. Coaches expose clients to challenging food/eating situations (that normally would trigger eating disorder behaviors) and then help guide clients to respond in new, healthier ways. This is what is known as Exposure & Response Prevention. Normalizing eating patterns is primary to recovery. It is about the food! Before, after, and during meal sessions, coaches allow clients to process their thoughts, feelings, and intentions. This helps clients stay present and become aware of strengths and vulnerabilities.

Meal sessions can look like ...
-
Going to a new restaurant a client wants to try, but is consumed by eating disorder thoughts and needs support challenging them.
-
Planning a meal ahead of time, making it, and then having a session over Zoom or Skype with a coach. In this situation, coach will make a similar meal as the client.
-
Buying groceries, preparing food, and having a meal together in client's home with their family.
