Meal Support

Normalizing eating patterns is paramount to achieving full recovery. It is about the food! Before, after, and during meal sessions, coaches allow clients to process their thoughts, feelings, and intentions. This helps clients stay present and become aware of strengths and vulnerabilities. My approach encourages clients to find joy in cooking for themselves.

Meal sessions can look like ...

  • Going to a new restaurant a client wants to try, but is consumed by eating disorder thoughts and behaviors and needs extra support challenging them.

  • Planning a meal ahead of time, making it, and then having a session over Zoom or Skype with a coach. In this situation, coach will make a similar meal as the client.

  • Buying groceries, preparing food, and having a meal together in client's home with their family.

Clothes Shopping

Trying on clothes is often a triggering situation for those who have eating disorders and distorted body image.

In these sessions, clients have my full support when helping them purchase new clothes. Together, clients and I outline what the goals are while shopping. For example, What kind of clothes will we shop for? Which stores are we going to? Will there be a meal outing as well? How much time will we spend shopping? This helps give structure to an otherwise anxiety producing situation.

During the onset of recovery, there are several changes that happen to one's body. When a client gains or loses weight, it can be difficult to manage those experiences on one's own. It's important to have a role model there to remind clients that these changes are completely normal. What a person weighs does not take precedence over who they are as a person. I help guide clients away from looking at clothes sizes and help clients explore peace within their bodies. Clothes are meant to fit a person's body, not the other way around!
